It is always nice to be validated. An article from September 26 at The New York Times states "Job Hunting Is, And Isn't What It Used to Be."
The article states pretty clearly for anyone who did not receive the memo that job boards are a waste of time. Your odds of finding meaningful employment are very slim. It is interesting to see that we are starting to treat the boards like the "Help Wanted" section.
I still say that both are a necessary evil. You HAVE to be trying to make connections wherever you can. Just know that the odds of finding that new gig are probably the same if not worse than your odds of winning the lottery.
The article reinforces what all three of my regular readers know...that you MUST be using LinkedIn and Facebook to network. They even dive into a bit of brand management...you need to be careful what you post. You are a google away from being blacklisted. I like offense. I promote the fact that you should CONTROL what shows when your future employer googles you.
If there are pictures of you in compromising positions that are indexed F-O-R-E-V-E-R then you need to make sure that they show up DEEP into your page rankings.
