Real expertise must pass three tests. First, it must lead to performance that is consistently superior to that of the expert's peers. Second, real expertise produces concrete results. ...Finally, true expertise can be replicated and measured in the lab.
In a sidebar, the authors talk to the point that many people are wrongly believed to posseses expertise. I found this interesting in a day where anyone with a blog that posts somewhat regularly is quick to be labelled an expert. They are not experts if they don't meet the criteria stated above.
